肯尼亚学者:“一带一路”倡议正根本性地改变非洲
Recently, Peter Kagwang, director of the Kenya African Policy Research Institute, said in an interview with People’s Daily Online that the “Belt and Road” initiative is changing Africa in a very fundamental way.
“The ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative has put forward the idea of supporting Africa’s infrastructure, and the construction of infrastructure has led to the development of other fields. This is what the initiative is doing. It is integrating all components of Africa’s sustainable development.”
Taking China’s assistance in building Kenya’s Mombasa-Nairobi Railway as an example, Kagwang introduced that Kenya has one of the most advanced rail systems in East Africa. The railway extends from Nairobi to the western part of the country, not only improving people’s travel speed, but also significantly reducing the time required for freight transportation. The reduction in transportation time for goods has provided broad development space for industrialization and stimulated the development of the manufacturing industry.
Kagwang also pointed out that, more importantly, China’s infrastructure construction and all development within the framework of the “Belt and Road” are striving to achieve harmonious coexistence with natural ecology.
One of the symbols that embodies this concept is the establishment of animal passages and bridge culverts by the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway in the wildlife park. The railway passes through the air, and animals continue to be at ease in nature. People can watch from afar without disturbing them. Kagwang generously praised this scene along the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway, saying, “This is really a beautiful sight.”
During the interview, Kagwang just completed his speech at the China Africa Economic and Trade Think Tank Seminar. In his speech, Kagwang mentioned that China Africa trade is booming under the new framework of development cooperation, which is based on two pillars: the Forum on China Africa Cooperation and the “Belt and Road” initiative proposed by China.
“China Africa relations have risen to a new level, ” Kagwang mentioned the Kenyan avocado and anchovy exhibited at the expo and regarded them as symbols of the development of China Africa trade. These two types of goods were first exported to China last year and this year, respectively.
“At first, Africa was regarded as a desperate continent. But today, no one dares to say that Africa has no hope.” Kagwang said, “This is a promising and valuable continent. Africa is rising. Thanks to the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative.”
